DESCRIPTION:The Rivanna RiverFest started in 2019 as a community celebration of the Rivanna River\, hosted by multiple groups. This year\, the Rivanna RiverFest will run for more than a week (May 1-9) and include a range of activities. Most require advanced registration and spots are very limited\, so sign-up soon. The Rivanna River Race registration is separate (deadline is April 30!). Some activities\, like our Pop-up Watershed Education tables\, do not require registration. DESCRIPTION:Update 3.25.2020: \nWith deference to guidance from public health officials\, and in the spirit of supporting the health of our Rivanna watershed community\, we are canceling this year’s Rivanna RiverFest\, scheduled for May 3rd. The associated Fix a Leak Family 5k and Rivanna River Race are also canceled. Plans for the 2021 RiverFest and races are already under way.  \nWhile we are disappointed that we won’t be able to celebrate the Rivanna River at RiverFest with you this spring\, we are more thankful than ever to have this amazing resource in our backyards. During this time of great uncertainty\, we appreciate the many health benefits that being outside and near the water brings. If you are able to get out safely to one of our local river trails or parks\, we hope that you will enjoy them too. \n——————————————————————————————————————- \nWe invite everyone to join us and enjoy the Rivanna River and check out Rivanna RiverFest! This family-friendly event will connect everyone to the Rivanna River and Charlottesville environment. In preparation for the upcoming season we have purchased new equipment with financial support from Virginia Save Our Streams. The new gear includes; \n\nWaders\nGloves\nJeweler’s Loops\nSpray Bottles\nSun Screen\nCopies of J. Reese Voshell’s Guide to Common Freshwater Invertebrate\n\nThe recent Introductory\, Re-certification\, and Advanced Monitoring trainings have also fully prepared our volunteer monitors to conduct effective sampling in the local waterways.
