In 2013 Rivanna Conservation Society created the Rivanna River Guardians Corps. Volunteer Guardians:

  • Adopt a section of the Rivanna, which they then walk or paddle on a regular basis;
  • Collect trash, note interesting flora and fauna, and monitor their section of the river for chemical parameters and bacteria growth; and
  • Guardians can help out with RCA special projects, such as tire removal, student education programs, major cleanup events, buffer plantings and restoration projects.

RCA provides ongoing training and equipment. To learn more and to become a Guardian, contact us.
